This page is designed to provide information regarding the Masters of
Business Administration (MBA) and Bachelor of Science in Engineering 3-2 program at Carnegie Mellon University.

Overview and Admissions Process
1) The program is truly an integrated 5 year program.
2) Students take their normal engineering program through the first 6
semesters.
3) The remaining 4 semesters consist of 48 units of MBA courses and 12 units
of engineering courses per semester.
4) Students select some of the MBA electives to satisfy the CIT general
education requirements.
5) Students should take internships during the summers after the 2nd, 3rd, and
4th years of the program (refer to chart below).

Engineering/MBA Integrated 5-Year Program Sequence
Financial Considerations
1) All 3-2 students pay MBA tuition in years 4 and 5.
2) The Financial Aid Office at the Tepper School of Business together with
Enrollment Services will determine eligibility and process all aid.
3) All graduate students (years 4 & 5) are considered to be
independent and most undergraduate scholarships will apply only for year
4.

students and their parents are encouraged to contact Bonnie
Lack, Associate Director of Financial Aid with all financial aid
questions and concerns.
Eligibility
1) Third year undergraduate students in the following
engineering majors are eligible to apply:
Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Electrical and Computer, Materials
Science, and Mechanical.
2) Candidates must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at the end of the
Fall of their third year.
Admissions Timetable
The completed application (all components) are due by January
31st of your third year. Applicants must take the GMAT by the end
of January and arrange their interview with the MBA Admissions Office in
early February. Candidates will be notified of their status by the end
of March.
Application Requirements
1) Application Form (on-line - available via the MBA
Admissions website.).

3) GMAT
4) Resume and work history (including any previous internship experiences).
5) Letters of Evaluation (2 are required - likely sources would be any
internship supervisors or those that may have supervised campus or community
activities in which you participated).
6) An interview with an MBA Admissions staff member.
7) Verification of eligibility by the CIT Dean's office.
8) No application fee (the fee is waived for Carnegie Mellon alums).

1) Demonstrated potential for academic success in the MBA
program.
2) Potential for professional success.
3) Personal qualities such as: maturity, leadership, communication
skills, teamwork.
4) Strong rationale for applying to the program.
